Sources: Sheffield United make approach to sign Davies as Liverpool stance revealed

Sheffield United have made an enquiry for Liverpool defender Ben Davies, Football Insider has learned.

The Championship big guns are in the market for a proven centre-back as they look to secure instant promotion.

A United source has told Football Insider that the club have registered their interest in signing Davies.

Liverpool are believed to be open to offers for their January signing.

Sheffield United were previously interested in signing Davies from Preston North End last winter before his surprise move to Anfield.

His Liverpool deal runs until the summer of 2025.

The defender was signed after Liverpool suffered awful luck with injuries to their centre backs.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all missed large swathes of last season.

However, despite the injury crisis, Davies has never made a competitive appearance for the Reds.

Fellow January signing Ozan Kabak played the majority of Liverpool’s games after January with Klopp opting to play youngsters like Rhys Williams instead of the former Preston man.

Davies did start Liverpool’s first game of pre-season in what was his first outing for the club.

The Blades are yet to make any first team additions this summer.

The big arrival at Bramall Lane has been Slavisa Jokanovic as he replaced Chris Wilder.

His task is to get Sheffield United promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Blades’ only departure of note so far has been John Lundstram.

He left the club on a free transfer and moved to Rangers.
