Aston Villa have rejected a £10million bid from Sheffield United for Cameron Archer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League new boys have set their sights on prising the forward, 21, from Villa Park.

It is believed that Unai Emery has given the green light to Archer to leave the club before the window shuts.

But the offer tabled by United does not match Villa's asking price for the prolific young striker.

The Midlands giants have already allowed youngster Aaron Ramsey to leave the club and join newly promoted Burnley this summer.

Archer could follow in his footsteps after struggling to make an impact since Unai Emery's arrival at the club last November.

The England Under-21 international, who penned a fresh five-year contract at Villa Park last year, has played just seven minutes under the Spaniard.

He went out on loan to Middlesbrough in January and notched 11 goals and six assists from just 20 second-tier matches for Michael Carrick's side.

The 21-year-old also scored seven goals in 20 Championship appearances on loan at Preston in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

Archer has managed four goals in 13 senior appearances for Aston Villa.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United, who lost their season-opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday (12 August), are on the hunt for striking reinforcements after losing Illman Ndiaye to Marseille earlier this summer.

Sander Berge has also departed but was quickly replaced with Gus Hamer - who was one of the Championship's standout players for Coventry last term.
