Sources: Sheffield Wednesday plotting to sign ex-Rangers star Andy Dallas
Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan and Cheltenham are chasing former Solihull Moors and Rangers striker Andy Dallas, sources have told Football Insider.
The 23-year-old scored 21 goals last season and he is regarded as one of the best strikers outside the Football League.
Dallas is a free agent after seeing out his contract at Solihull Moors but the National League side would be due a compensation fee for his services as he is under 24.
The striker made 50 appearances for Solihull in a season that saw the club finish 15th in the National League.
Dallas joined the non-league side in 2021 after two years with Cambridge United where he made just 33 appearances for the club.
The goalscorer spent three years within the Rangers academy but never made his debut for the senior side and featured just once for the Scottish giants’ B team.
Barnsley finished fourth in League One last term and narrowly missed out on a spot in the Championship following a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off final.
Wigan are joining Barnsley in the English third tier next season after finishing bottom in the second division with just 39 points from 44 games.
Fellow League One side Cheltenham are also interested in adding Dallas to their ranks after scoring just 45 goals in the competition last term and finishing 16th and ten points clear of the relegation zone.
