Sources: Shrewsbury Town agree to sign Coventry City star Julien Dacosta

Shrewsbury have agreed a deal to sign Coventry City defender Julien Dacosta, Football Insider understands.

The right-back, 26, is moving again after spending the second half of last season in Portugal on loan at Portimonense.

A Shrewsbury source has told Football Insider that the club have reached a full agreement on a season-long loan for the Frenchman.

This comes after a number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking Dacosta for the upcoming season.

Dacosta made 11 appearances during his time in Portugal as Portimonense finished 13th in the Primeira Liga.

He played the full 90 minutes during a low point for the club, as his side were thrashed 7-0 by Porto on 16 April.

The defender made five appearances for Coventry during the first half of the campaign though he only accumulated 196 minutes of action during those outings.

Dacosta joined the Sky Blues in the summer of 2020 following the expiry of his contract with French side FC Chamois Niort.

He made 83 appearances for the French club, who played in Ligue 2 while Dacasta was on their books.

During his first season at Coventry (2020-21), he only made 19 appearances in all competitions after picking up an injury during pre-season.

Shrewsbury are preparing for an eighth straight season of League One football after finishing 18th following a poor 2021-22 campaign.

Coventry will again play Championship football in the 2022-23 season after finishing 12th last term.
