Celtic and Rangers look set to be disappointed in their pursuit of Dundee United star Jeando Fuchs next month, Football Insider understands.

The Glasgow giants been credited with an interest in the midfielder, 24, who has impressed for United this season.

But a recruitment source has told Football Insider that the Scottish Premiership outfit are ready to reject all offers for Fuchs in January.

Rangers

He is out of contract next summer and Dundee United have been unable to secure him to an extension.

But they regard him as vital to their hopes of finishing in the top six.

The Cameroon international is a defensive midfielder who has spent the last 14 months at Dundee United after signing from Spanish outfit Alaves.

He has been a mainstay of the team since joining and has attracted interest from Scotland's elite.

Rangers and Celtic are both in the market for central midfielders going into the main window next summer.

At Ibrox, Steven Davis turns 37 on New Year's Day, Ryan Jack has barely played in the last year due to injury and there is doubt over the futures of Glen Kamara and Scott Arfied, who is out of contract next summer.

At Celtic, the likes of summer signing James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro have struggled to make an impact this term.

David Turnbull is facing a lengthy spell out with a hamstring injury, while Nir Bitton has entered the final 18 months of his contract.
