Sources: Sunderland and Blackburn race to sign Aberdeen starlet Ross

Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers are in the hunt to sign Aberdeen rising star Ethan Ross, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder, who turns 20 in August, has been offered a new contract by the Scottish Premiership outfit that he has not accepted.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that has opened the door to League One giants Sunderland and Championship outfit Blackburn.

Both are understood to be keeping close tabs on Ross’ situation and are aware he is keen on a move down south.

The youngster signed a two-year deal back in 2019, meaning he will be out of contract this summer if he does not commit to new terms.

A graduate of the Aberdeen youth ranks, the teenager is on the fringes of the first-team squad at Pittodrie.

The left-sided midfielder made two league appearances, both as a substitute, for the Dons during the 2020/21 campaign.

He also featured three times in the Scottish Cup, with one start under his belt.

Ross also spent just over three months on loan with Raith Rovers last term.

He played 15 times for the Championship outfit, with two goals and three assists to his name.

In total, Ross has made 12 appearances for Aberdeen, two of which have come among the starting XI.

Now the Dons are trying to tie the young starlet down a new deal.

However, their efforts have been unsuccessful so far, with Sunderland and Blackburn both circling.

The English clubs view Ross as a hot prospect who could be signed for a nominal figure this summer.
