Ipswich Town winger Gwion Edwards is being chased by Sunderland and Preston North End on a summer free, Football Insider can reveal.
The 28-year-old winger is out of contract at Portman Road and he recently confirmed there have been no discussions about his future.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider both Sunderland and Preston are monitoring the situation.
Edwards is one of 13 players at play-off chasing Ipswich whose current contract expires in the summer.
He told the East Anglian Daily Times last week he was not expecting any discussions and was fully focused on helping the Tractor Boys finish in the League One play-off places.
They are currently three points behind Lincoln City who occupy the final play-off place, although Ipswich have played a game more.
Both Sunderland and Preston will be hoping to play Championship football with the Black Cats aiming for automatic promotion from League One.
Edwards has only played one campaign in England’s second tier with Ipswich when they were relegated in the 2018/19 season.
He scored six goals and provided three assists in 33 games but his efforts were not enough to prevent Town from being relegated.
Preston are likely to remain in the Championship after interim manager Frankie McAvoy has steadied the ship following Alex Neil’s dismissal last month.
They could be in the market for reinforcements in wide areas as Billy Bodin is out of contract and Anthony Gordon is likely to return to Everton when his loan expires.
