Sources: Sunderland and Wigan Athletic chase QPR star Bonne

Sunderland and Wigan Athletic are chasing Queens Park Rangers striker Macauley Bonne this month, Football Insider understands.

Bonne, 24, was signed on a season-long loan deal by Ipswich in the summer transfer window and has responded with an emphatic 11 goals in 23 games in League One.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Sunderland and Wigan are monitoring Bonne’s situation at Ipswich.

The League One duo could move for him this month as they both look to add to their attacking options in the transfer window.

Bonne signed for QPR back in the summer of 2020.

He played 35 times for the Hoops, netting three times in the Championship.

The striker was sent on loan to Ipswich last summer in a bid to get him regular game time in the starting XI.

He enjoyed a blistering start to life at Portman Road, scoring nine goals in his opening 10 league games.

However, Bonne has scored just twice since, with his last strike coming back in November.

His lack of goals has not put suitors off this month, with several League One clubs looking at a potential move.

High-flying Wigan and Sunderland both view Bonne as a goalscorer who could boost their promotion push.

The Black Cats, who currently sit second, are the top scorers in the third tier with 47 goals.

The Latics, who sit four points behind in third, have netted 40 times in three fewer games.

Bonne has scored total of 17 goals in 83 League One appearances during his spells with Colchester, Charlton and Ipswich.

He has missed just one of the Tractor Boys’ league games this season.
