Sources: Swansea City and Huddersfield Town set sights on ex-Celtic man Shaun Maloney
Swansea City and Huddersfield Town are keeping close tabs on Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship duo have registered their interest in the Scot, 40, who has impressed at the DW Stadium despite their relegation from the Championship.
Maloney took charge of Wigan in January following the sacking of Kolo Toure and he guided them to four wins and eight draws in his 17 games in charge last season.
Wigan were bottom of the table when Maloney took over and a three-point deduction for repeated non-payment of wages in March made their survival bid all the more harder.
The Latics will start 2023-24 season on minus eight points after further failures to pay wages and Maloney has won many admirers for how he has dealt with the off-the-field issues at the club.
Maloney is highly regarded within coaching circles after starting his coaching career at former club Celtic, before working under Roberto Martinez with Belgium and a short spell at Hibernian.

Swansea are eyeing up Maloney as they search for a potential replacement for Russell Martin as he closes in on a move to newly relegated Southampton.
On 26 May, Football Insider revealed that Martin has agreed a three-year deal with the Saints and will be announced as their new manager soon.
The newly demoted side will pay a six-figure sum to the Welsh club as compensation with the 37-year-old still having a year left on his contract.
