Sources: Swansea City and Preston North End in race to sign Anthony Glennon

Swansea City and Preston North End are among a number of clubs plotting moves for Grimsby Town defender Anthony Glennon, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 23, has been a standout performer for Grimsby since his arrival from Burnley last summer and his performances have alerted a host of EFL clubs.

Former Liverpool youngster Glennon made 12 goal contributions from left wing-back last season, scoring three goals and providing nine assists.

He was instrumental in Grimbsy’s memorable run to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup – where they were eventually beaten by Brighton.

The defender made 39 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign after joining the club last summer (2022).

Glennon, who previously had a loan spell at Grimsby, signed a two-year deal when he returned to the Mariners – meaning he has 12 months left to run on his contract.

He came through the ranks at Liverpool and Burnley – making three cup appearances for the Clarets in the 2020-21 season.

A potential exit for Glennon would leave Danny Amos, 23, as the only left-back at Grimsby.

Meanwhile, Swansea are in the market for a new left-back as they prepare to lose top performer Ryan Manning when his contract expires.

Republic of Ireland international Manning notched five goals and 10 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions during the 2022-23 campaign.

Greg Cunningham and Andrew Hughes shared the left-back responsibilities for Preston North End this term as the Lancashire side finished 12th in the Championship.
