Sources: Tottenham and Southampton in race to sign Murray Campbell
Tottenham and Southampton have joined the chase for St Mirren sensation Murray Campbell, Football Insider understands.
The 15-year-old has been attracting the interest of a number of English Premier League clubs, including Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Tottenham and Southampton have now registered their interest in Campbell.
The Scotland Under-16 international is set to be offered a professional deal by the Scottish club when he turns 16 next month.
He is currently playing with the St Mirren first-team squad in pre-season and is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Scotland.
The teenage defender played the entire second half of Stephen Robinson side’s 3-0 win over the Crusaders in Belfast on Monday night.
Robinson is understood to be a big admirer of Campbell.
Speaking after the win, he said: “Murray Campbell is only 15 and was playing against really experienced Irish league players and coped really well.
“Everyone has got an opportunity to impress me now, especially the younger boys on this trip.”
Tottenham have made significant early moves in the summer transfer window.
The London club have already confirmed the signings of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.
While a deal for Everton forward Richarlison is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Southampton have also been busy in this window.
The Saints have added Gavin Bazunu, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Mateusz Lis to their squad.
