Tottenham are unhappy with manager Antonio Conte over his jibes about insufficient backing in the transfer market, sources have told Football Insider.

Conte has regularly bemoaned the Lilywhites' perceived lack of transfer activity throughout his reign at the club - which began in November 2021.

Speaking on Wednesday (8 March) following Spurs' Champions League exit and quoted by football.london, the Italian claimed he doesn't have a "solid foundation" for success at the club.

He also hinted at struggles with club chief Daniel Levy - insisting he has made his thoughts about solutions in the transfer market very "clear".

Top Tottenham officials are believed to be privately fuming with the comments considering the club's spend of £172million this season - the third-largest spree in the Premier League.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski arrived in January 2022 - with a fee of £39m also committed to Pedro Porro in the January window just months ago.

Spurs chiefs also point to recent club accounts which show a big loss of £50.1million for the 2021-22 campaign - due to transfer business.

Speaking on Friday (10 March) and as quoted by the Daily Mail, Conte accused the Tottenham fans of lacking "patience" - and gave the clearest sign yet of his imminent exit.

Tottenham

Conte, who won the Premier League with Chelsea in the 2016-17 campaign, has won 40 of his 74 games in charge of the Lilywhites.

Tottenham sit fourth in the Premier League but will face a challenge from Liverpool and Newcastle for the last Champions League spot.
