Sources: Tottenham have six-figure Mensah bid rejected
Peterborough United have rejected a £200,000 Tottenham bid for rising star Benjamin Mensah, Football Insider understands.
Spurs have made a formal move for the 19-year-old defender, who was at the Aston Villa academy before switching to London Road.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Peterborough have snubbed Spurs’ offer for Mensah as they are holding out for higher fee.
The London giants are now weighing up whether to return with an improved offer for the Ghanian teen.
Peterborough regard Mensah highly even though he has yet to make his league debut and all four of his appearances for the club have come in the EFL Trophy.
Posh director of football Barry Fry has confirmed that he has held talks with Tottenham “and they have suggested one or two things to me”.

The Londoners have now followed up with a bid for the right-back, who can also play in more advanced roles out wide.
Tottenham have set their sights on Mensah, who only turned 19 last month, for their Under-23s squad.
The aim would be to develop him in the age group set-up with a view to then promoting him to the first-team squad.
One potential option for Spurs would be to offer a buy-to-loan in which Mensah signs permanently but is then loaned straight back for the rest of the season.
That would keep him on course for a Championship debut for Peterborough, who are striving to avoid instant relegation.
The second-tier outfit are 22nd in the division and three points adrift of Reading in 21st.
