Tottenham are set for talks with Atalanta star Timothy Castagne as they step up their pursuit of a new right-back this summer, Football Insider understands.

Spurs had been linked with a move for Thomas Meunier but he signed for Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer last week.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Castagne, 24, is in their sights and they are keeping close tabs on his situation.

Discussions are set to take place with third parties close to Castagne to ascertain his interest in a blockbuster move to London.

The Belgium international has a year left on his contract with Serie A outfit Atalanta and they are braced for bids for one of their star players in the next window.

There is also interest in Castagne from other clubs in the Premier League and Italy's top tier.

He has caught the eye of Spurs' talent-spotters as he has pedigree and top-level experience.

Castagne is versatile, too, and has primarily featured in a wing-back role this season, included in an advanced left-sided role on a few occasions.

Capped seven times by Belgium, he has spent the last three years at Atalanta since his transfer from Genk.

Tottenham are in the market for senior defenders this summer, and are primed to sign at least one right-back and one centre-back.
