Sources: Tottenham now turn attention to Ange Postecoglou and sacked Premier League manager

Tottenham have shifted their focus to new targets which includes current Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, sources have told Football Insider.

The Australian manager has been on the shortlist from the beginning even though he wasn’t the original number one choice to replace Antonio Conte.

The collapse of talks between Arne Slot and Spurs means Postecoglou, 57, is back in contention for one of the leading Premier League posts.

Levy has held talks with a handful of candidates and was sure he had his man after negotiations with Slot reached an advanced stage.

However, a full agreement has remained out of reach and the Dutchman, 44, has made up his mind to stay at Feyenoord.

The aim for Spurs has been to hire a younger manager who can rebuild the team in the same way that Mauricio Pochettino once did.

Postecoglou’s age has always put him down the pecking order but his achievements at Celtic have not gone unnoticed and he is now one of the men in firm focus for Tottenham along with former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

The treble-chasing manager also has what sources say is a relatively low release fee in his rolling 12-month contract.

That is attractive to Levy and the Tottenham board, but it’s unclear if Celtic would accept any approach before the Scottish Cup Final.

Postecoglou has become a hero at Celtic after transforming the team during two trophy-laden seasons.

He has been in charge for 111 games, winning 81 and losing only 18. He has won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and 2 Scottish League cups.

In the current campaign, he has an incredible points-per-game ratio at Celtic of 2.39 across all competitions, and that includes the Champions League and domestic cups.
