Sources: Surprise Tottenham plan for 'worldbeater' Bale revealed as new role mapped out

Tottenham expect Gareth Bale to explode in the final months of the season after mapping out a key new role for him, Football Insider understands.

The 31-year-old was restricted to a fringe role in the opening five months of his second spell at Spurs as he struggled for fitness and game time.

But Jose Mourinho and the Spurs coaches will ditch their softy-softly approach with Bale and fully unleash him now the season has reached crunch time.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Mourinho plans to start Bale “virtually every game” in the final months of the season.

He is convinced the wide attacker is now fully fit, and his body is able to copy with the demands of regular intense football.

Mourinho has carefully nurtured the Wales international this season, to the point where he started just two of the team’s first 24 Premier League matches.

This came after playing irregularly in the previous two seasons at Real Madrid, due to fitness issues as well as a lack of trust from the manager.

Mourinho devised a tailored programme for Bale.

Most of his game time up until the end of February had been in the less demanding Europa League against weaker opposition.

That was to get him physically fit as well as battle-hardened for the critical juncture of the season.

There has been transformation in Bale on and off the pitch in recent weeks.

The source explaining he is “looking a lean, fit and hungry” behind the scenes, “a worldbeater” and ready to be fully let off leash.

Tottenham are set to reap the dividends as they step up their assault on a top-four Premier League finish and cup trophies.

Mourinho wants to use Bale regularly in a front three with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane he believes is unmatched across the whole of Europe.

Bale has started the last three Tottenham league matches, although he is yet to complete a game in any competition this season.

He has netted doubles against Burnley and Crystal Palace, and now has 10 goals and three assists from 22 appearances this term.

In other news, Mourinho has found his next senior Tottenham star set for the Dele Alli deep freeze.
