Sources: Tottenham pull plug on signing Pierluigi Gollini permanently

Tottenham are not planning to sign Pierluigi Gollini permanently this summer, Football Insider understands.

The 27-year-old was recruited by Spurs last summer from Atalanta on a season-long loan with a £13million option to buy.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Antonio Conte has not been impressed enough by Gollini to want to sign him permanently.

His loan is believed to be an obligation to buy if he makes 20 first-team appearances this season.

It appears the number two will not reach that target with Hugo Lloris starting all 29 of Spurs’ Premier League matches this term.

Gollini’s 10 appearances have come in the Europa Conference League, the FA Cup and the League Cup but Tottenham are out of all those competitions.

Spurs insider John Wenham fumed at the stopper following a mistake in the club’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on 12 January.

Gollini came to collect a corner but missed the ball, allowing Antonio Rudiger to head home the opener.

His opportunities have been limited following Spurs’ exit from the Europa Conference League.

He made six appearances in the competition but only kept one clean sheet.

The stopper did feature in the League Cup penalty shootout over Wolves on 22 September but he did not save any of the home side’s spot-kicks.

He also started in the FA Cup as Spurs survived a scare to progress past Morecambe on 9 January.

Gollini has made 112 appearances and was the club’s first-choice stopper last season.
