Unai Emery's pursuit of Leeds United star Tyler Adams could clear a path for Douglas Luiz to leave Aston Villa amid interest from Premier League rivals, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are both keen on the 25-year-old former Man City star - with the Gunners' interest stretching back to last summer (2022).

It is believed the United States international, who is currently out injured until at least the end of this month, has a release clause worth between £20-25million in his Whites contract.

The interest in Adams comes despite Villa's healthy numbers in midfield.

Emery already has options like John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans, and Jacob Ramsey in midfield.

But it is believed it would be Luiz to make way if a deal for Adams could be completed before next month's deadline.

However, Aston Villa will face stiff competition for the former RB Leipzig star from Chelsea - with Football Insider revealing on Monday (7 August) that the Blues are very close to agreeing a deal for his services.

It is believed the negotiation process has been expedited due to his release clause.

Luiz played 40 times across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign as Villa secured Europa Conference League qualification - notching seven goals and six assists.

He is under contract until June 2026 after signing a bumper extension last summer (2022).

The nine-cap Brazil international has racked up 151 games for Aston Villa since joining from Man City in 2019.
