Sources: Tottenham want Eric Dier deal agreed soon amid 'huge' Conte claim

Tottenham are keen to wrap up a two-year contract extension for defender Eric Dier quickly, sources have told Football Insider.

Dier’s current contract expires in 2024 and Spurs have opened talks with the 29-year-old to extend his stay in North London until 2026.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is a “huge” admirer of Dier’s skillset and versatility, sources say, and considers him a key player in his squad.

There is a willingness from all parties to get the deal over the line quickly, with Spurs eager to turn their full attention towards contract negotiations with Harry Kane.

Football Insider sources revealed on Saturday (25 February) that Tottenham have already opened talks with Kane regarding a new deal, with negotiations at an early stage.

Dier has been one of the first names on Conte’s teamsheet this season, appearing in all but one Premier League match for Tottenham this season.

While usually fielded as the central defender in a back-three, Dier has shown the ability to also play in midfield during his early seasons at Tottenham.

Dier joined Tottenham back in 2014 after a £5milllion move from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

In his nine seasons with Spurs, Dier has made 349 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and assisting a further 11.

He signed a four-year contract extension at Tottenham in 2020, but after impressing Conte as a regular starter he is set to sign a bumper deal.
