Sources: Howe makes up mind on signing Martial after £6m Newcastle reveal

Newcastle United will not pursue a move for unsettled Manchester United striker Anthony Martial in next month’s transfer window, Football Insider has been told.

The France striker, 26, is seeking to leave Old Trafford next month after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first-team action.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Martial as they look to boost their survival hopes in the January transfer window.

But a Magpies source has told Football Insider that manager Eddie Howe has rejected the chance to pursue Martial next month.

The recently-appointed boss is understood to be not interested in the France international after he was offered to Newcastle as a potential target and will look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

It has been reported that it would take a £6million loan fee to lure Martial from Man United for the second half of the season.

Newcastle’s priorities in January are to strengthen in defence and central midfield, with Howe keen to bolster the spine of his team.

But the north-east giants are also open to bringing in a forward who can provide cutting edge.

Martial is a proven Premier League attacker, and can play both as central striker or on the flanks.

He has been mainly used on the left side of the attack in recent seasons.

But the Frenchman has struggled for game time this term and has played just 359 minutes in all competitions across his 10 matches.

He has yet to score or assist this term but has scored 79 goals and supplied 50 assists from 268 United games in total.
