Watford are plotting a move to sign Stoke City forward Benik Afobe, Football Insider understands.

Afobe spent the 2021-22 season out on loan at Millwall and impressed with 12 goals.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the striker, 29, is on the radar of Watford and they are targeting a move.

The Hornets are in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer as they are expected to lose a number of key players such as Ismaila Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis following relegation from the Premier League.

A recruitment source told Football Insider last month (21 May) that Dennis' representatives had held talks with West Ham about a potential move to the London Stadium.

Watford have also lost Andre Gray who is out of contract at Vicarage Road at the end of the month.

Afobe has a year left to run on his Stoke City contract and earned plaudits for his loan spell with Millwall.

The DR Congo international scored 13 times in 41 games across all competitions for the London club.

He is proven at Championship level and has now found the net 55 times in 198 appearances in the second-tier across spells with Millwall, Stoke, Bristol City, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers and Reading.
