West Brom have opened talks to sign Brighton midfielder Jayson Molumby, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Republic of Ireland international, 22, has been given the green light to leave the Seagulls by Tuesday’s cut-off.

A West Brom source has told Football Insider that the club are negotiating a season-long loan with Brighton.

Molumby has had spells on loan at Millwall and Preston North End in recent seasons.

As quoted by the Argus on 14 August, Graham Potter revealed he could head out on loan again this summer to play regular football.

The midfielder has two years left to run on his Brighton contract.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston but endured a difficult time.

His arrival was seen as a coup but he fell down the pecking order when Frankie McAvoy replaced Alex Neil as manager.

Molumby has played five times for Brighton's first team but is yet to make a matchday squad this season.

Instead, he has featured twice for the club's Under-23s side in Premier League 2.

West Brom have been busy in the transfer window adding experienced Championship players as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Valerien Ismael has added Adam Reach, Alex Mowatt, Matt Clarke and Jordan Hugill to the squad that was relegated from the top-flight.

Molumby, who has been capped nine times by his country, has played 51 times in the Championship.

A defensive-minded player, he has found the net once and provided two assists in that time.
