Sources: West Ham set sights on signing Aston Villa star Hause

West Ham have set their sights on Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Irons are weighing up multiple centre-back options as they look to strengthen in defence before the window shuts this month.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Hause, 26, has been added to their target list amid indications he could be available.

The former Wolves defender has slipped to fourth in the centre-back pecking order at Villa following the loan capture of Axel Tuanzebe from Man United.

Dean Smith can also call upon first choice pair Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konza, who were one of the best partnerships in the Premier League last season.

It remains to be seen if Villa can be tempted into cashing in on former England Under-21 international Hause.

West Ham are in the market for a left sided centre-back who is approaching or at his peak.

They were willing to pay up to £17m for Rennes’ Nayef Aguerd but the French club will not let him go this month.

The Irons are prepared to pay a significant sum for a central defender despite operating within a restricted transfer budget.

The summer exit of Fabian Balbuena has left Moyes with three senior centre-backs in Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson.

However, Ogbonna is 33 and Dawson is 31, while Diop has struggled to maintain consistency.

Hause joined joined Villa from Wolves in the summer of 2019 for a fee of around £3m.

He has played 46 times for Dean Smith’s side after accumulating 80 appearances for Wolves.
