Sources: West Ham tell Conor Coventry to find new club

West Ham have told Conor Coventry he is free to find a new club ahead of the January window, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 22, is out of contract at the end of the season and has struggled to force his way into the first team.

The Irons would rather receive a cut-price fee for Coventry in the winter window than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

A January move is now looking increasingly likely for a player of whom there have long been high hopes at the London Stadium.

Coventry has made seven appearances this season but has experienced just one minute of Premier League football.

The midfielder has started four times this season – with three of those outings coming in the Europa Conference League.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Milton Keynes Dons, registering one goal and one assist in 22 appearances for the League One side.

Coventry, a 26-time Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, also had a brief spell at Peterborough United at the start of last season.

Remarkably, the midfield talent made his Premier League debut against Man City in August – almost four years after making his first-team bow in the League Cup.

Declan Rice and Ben Johnson are the other two academy products currently part of David Moyes’ squad.
