Sources: West Ham work on blockbuster defender signing after Sullivan order
West Ham are working on signing a top-level centre-back this summer, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Hammers’ plans to recruit a senior striker and convert Jesse Lingard’s loan into a permanent deal are well known.
But a West Ham source has told Football Insider that an equally big priority for manager David Moyes is to strengthen the centre of his defence.
The Scots wants a commanding player he can build his defence around especially with Declan Rice now firmly established as a midfield anchorman.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan will mandate agents to source centre-backs who could be lured to London Stadium this summer.
The source explained that the Irons are willing to spend significant money to get the right player.

It comes as the club prepare to tie Moyes to a long-term contract after an outstanding campaign ended in a sixth-place Premier League finish and Europa League football next season.
Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson ended the season as the first choice centre-back pair, with Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena the senior back-ups.
But Ogbonna is 33 and is out of contract in the summer of 2022, while Balbeuna’s deal expires next month.
West Ham have already announced they will convert 31-year-old Dawson’s season-long loan from Watford into a permanent deal that runs until 2023.
That leaves only Diop, 24, as a senior centre-back in the prime of his career.
