Wigan Athletic have rejected loan offers from Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient for defender Luke Robinson, Football Insider understands.

The League Two duo were keen to take left-back Robinson on loan before Monday's transfer deadline, but Wigan have rebuffed their approaches.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wigan want to keep Robinson, 20, at the DW Stadium for the second half of the season as they look to maintain their push for promotion to the Championship.

Robinson, who has come through the ranks at Wigan, has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Leam Richardson's side so far this season.

He has been used primarily in the cup competitions, with just one League One game under his belt.

The left-back has not been included in a matchday squad in the league since August.

League Two rivals Leyton Orient and Bristol Rovers both made moves to take Robinson on a temporary deal for the rest of the season.

However, Wigan want the young star to remain in and around the first-team squad.

The Latics currently sit second in the League One table.

Manager Richardson views Robinson as backup to Tom Pearce, Joe Bennett and Tendayi Darikwa.

Robinson made his debut for Wigan back in December 2020 as a substitute against Sunderland.

He played every minute in all but one of the club's last 21 League One games last season.

The young left-back has a total of 35 senior appearances under his belt for the north west outfit.

He has also played four times for Scotland's under-19s.
