Sources: Winner named in Man United & Barcelona race to sign PSG sensation Coulibaly

Man United and Barcelona have lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the elite-club race to sign Paris-Saint Germain sensation Soumaula Coulibaly, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, 17, has rejected a contract from last season’s Champions League finalists to head to Germany.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Coulibaly has agreed the terms of a pre-contract with Dortmund and is set to link up with them in the summer.

That represents a major blow to the rising star’s many other suitors.

The source explained that Man United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also offered contracts to Coulibaly as well as PSG.

But Dortmund’s proposal has proved to be the most persuasive for the in-demand youngster, widely regarded as a potential superstar.

It is not the first time in the last year that United have lost out to Germany’s second biggest club for an elite young talent.

United offered £25m to prise Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City but he snubbed them and instead opted to join Dortmund last July.

Coulibaly is the same age as Bellingham and, although he has not accumulated the same level of first-team experience, is regarded as a huge talent.

He has been able to secure a high-profile move despite recently rupturing a knee ligament in a training session in mid-February.

This was a real blow for the teen, who had been training with Mauricio Pochettino’s first team on numerous occasions in the lead up to the injury.

In other news, Man United plan to sell £350,000-a-week star man and bring in two blockbuster signings.
