Sources: Winner named in Newcastle United, Norwich City and Southampton race to sign Williams after Man United deal agreed

Norwich City have beaten Newcastle United and Southampton to the signing of Manchester United defender Brandon Williams, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Canaries have won the race to take the left-back, 20, on a season-long loan after reaching an agreement with United.

A source at the 20-times champions has told Football Insider that Williams has been told he can join Norwich once Alex Telles is fully recovered from injury.

The deal is agreed between the two top-flight clubs.

That is a blow to Williams’ other suitors, who have included Newcastle and Southampton this summer.

The promising full-back is one of the most highly-rated youngsters at Old Trafford.

He has already made 50 first-team appearances for the Red Devils, 21 of which have come in the Premier League.

As quoted by Metro in May 2020, former United full-back Gary Neville said he “loves him to bits” after a series of impressive displays.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the green light for Williams to leave temporarily in search of regular first-team football.

His availability caught the eye of several Premier League rivals in the market to strengthen their defence.

Former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce was keen to take the full-back to Newcastle United.

Southampton were also in the running after allowing Ryan Bertrand to leave on a free transfer.

However, Norwich have won the race and a deal is expected to completed shortly.

United are waiting until Alex Telles returns from an ankle injury before letting Williams leave.

Solskjaer confirmed the Brazilian would likely miss most, if not all, of August’s fixtures.

In other news, a northern club have opened talks to sign another Manchester United sensation.
