Wolves have registered their interest in signing Chelsea sensation Billy Gilmour, Football Insider can reveal.

The Scotland international, who turned 20 earlier this month, has been given the green light to go out on loan next season in the next phase of his development.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wolves have lodged their interest in Gilmour as part of a midfield overhaul.

It is understood the Molineux outfit are also working on a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

They would have to spend big to land the Portugal international, while Gilmour would be on a season-long loan.

It comes as Wolves prepare to listen to permanent offers for Ruben Neves, who has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.

Gilmour made 11 first team appearances in the 2020-21 campaign, of which eight were starts.

It has been difficult for the centre-midfielder to get regular minutes at Stamford Bridge with N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount in company.

A product of Rangers academy, Gilmour made his Premier League debut for the Blues as a substitute against Sheffield United in August 2019.

He showed his class in a man of the match performance for Scotland against England at Wembley last Friday.

However, the midfielder was forced to sit out of Steve Clarke's side's 3-1 loss to Croatia on Tuesday after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Gilmour has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
