Wolves will pay the majority of Fabio Silva's wages during his loan spell at Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gers confirmed on Thursday (28 December) that the 21-year-old will spend the remainder of the season at Ibrox after becoming Philippe Clement's first addition as boss.

In a big twist, it is believed that the club cannot afford to fully pay Silva's reported £80,000-per-week wages and have negotiated a deal in which the financially stronger Premier League side will take most of the burden.

The deal is regarded as a huge coup for Rangers given the level of competition in Silva's services.

Wolves confirmed there is no buy option in the deal and it is just a straight loan.

Silva has underwhelmed at Molineux since his then-club record transfer of £35million from Portuguese giants Porto in 2020 but he will look to get his career back on track in Glasgow.

Across 72 appearances for Wolves, he managed just five goals and six assists and this season he has found the net just once in a 5-0 EFL Cup win against League One Blackpool.

He struggled to earn minutes and had not made an appearance in the last eight consecutive Premier League games for Gary O'Neil's side.

Rangers

Rangers' clash against Ross County was postponed due to adverse weather conditions but they next face rivals Celtic in a highly-anticipated Old Firm clash on Saturday (30 December).
