Sources: Wrexham line up move for ex-Arsenal star Wilshere

Wrexham are lining up an ambitious move for ex-Arsenal and West Ham star Jack Wilshere, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The National League outfit are trying to lure the free agent, 29, with a contract offer this month.

A recruitment source has now told Football Insider that Wilshere has been training at Arsenal to maintain his fitness and is open to offers as he looks to revive his playing career.

Youngster Bradley Ibrahim claimed on his Instagram story last month (24 November), via The Mirror, that Wilshere was the “best player” in training.

Mikel Arteta told the Arsenal website earlier this year (7 October) the midfielder’s presence will only benefit the younger members of his squad.

He has been without a club since leaving Bournemouth at the end of last season.

The former England star played 17 times for the Cherries as they reached the play-off semi-finals but did not sign a new contract.

Wrexham have proven their ambitions since their takeover by Holywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in November 2020.

They appointed Phil Parkison – a manager with vast EFL experience – at the beginning of July and have backed him with players.

Over the summer the Welsh club signed Paul Mullin and Ben Tozer who had both won promotion from League Two in the 2019-20 campaign with Cambridge United and Cheltenham Town, respectively.

Mullin finished the season as the division’s top goalscorer with 32 goals in 46 games.

Despite their heavy backing Wrexham have endured a difficult start to the season and currently sit in seventh place in the National League, six points off league leaders Chesterfield.

Parkinson told BBC Sport at the end of October the co-owners will help Wrexham have a “real push” in January.

In other news, Arsenal have been tipped to bin £200,00-a-week star after news last week.
