Exclusive: Southampton in pole position to sign £15m-valued player from PL giants
Southampton have climbed into pole position to sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham before the window shuts this month, Football Insider can reveal.
The right-back, 22, will be allowed to leave the Londoners and, as revealed by Football Insider, he held talks last week with Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson and Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Southampton are currently the favourites ahead of Palace to agree a deal for Walker-Peters.
Spurs would rather offload their academy product on a permanent deal than a loan.
As revealed by Football Insider, they are asking for £15million for a player who has made just 24 first-team appearances and last played a Premier League match in August.
He has a contract that has three-and-a-half years remaining.
The former England Under-21 international accepts his time at his boyhood club is coming to an end and he is now looking to ignite his career at a team where he can hope to play regularly.
Hodgson has admitted he is keen to sign Walker-Peters after Football Insider broke the news that Palace had held extensive talks about recruiting him.
The defender was once again absent from the Tottenham squad for Tuesday's 2-1 Premier League win against Norwich City.
Walker-Peters has not had a single minute of league action since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who has started Serge Aurier in every match in the competition.
