Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks – and the club’s supporters on Twitter have given a huge thumbs up on a potential deal.
The Chronicle reports that the Magpies are battling West Ham and Crystal Palace for the right-back, who helped Fulham earn Championship promotion this season through the play-offs.
It is understood that the 25-year-old Englishman wants to stay with Fulham, but is yet to receive a new contract offer with his existing deal expiring this summer
Fredericks is an attack-minded full-back that has been a mainstay in the Fulham starting XI this campaign and been a part of an attacking style of football.
The right-sided flyer often bombs forward into attack with his speed and has demonstrated frequently his accurate pin-point crossing.
He chipped in with nine assists in 48 games across all competitions for Fulham this term and is a real threat in the final third.
The wide man has never featured in the Premier League before, but was previously on the books at Tottenham and played four times in the Europa League.
Newcastle fans on social media are confident that Fredericks could provide strong competition for right-back DeAndre Yedlin at St James’ Park and one claimed it to be a “no-brainer” on a free transfer.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Speed merchant with pace to burn.
Plays on the edge as we saw in the play off final but personally, I like that.
Genuine competition for Yedlin.#NUFC

Very similar to Yedlin too. Bombs up and down the wing. Free transfer would be a no brainier.

That would be awesome to have him in the ranks.

Would be a great signing. Not much between him and Yedlin but they both far better than Manquillo
