By Harry Sykes

The Roma recruitment chief made a scouting mission to Tottenham on Wednesday night as the Italian club step up attempts to sign a new winger this month, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that the Serie A outfit’s director of football Ricky Massara was at White Hart Lane for Spurs’ 2-0 Premier League win against Chelsea.

It is said that the purpose of the trip was to intensify Roma’s pursuit of a new wide man, with Stamford Bridge youngster Charly Musonda one player under consideration and said to be a “desired target”.

The Italian club are also interested in Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu, who has struggled for game time since Ronald Koeman took charge last summer.

Belgium Under-21 international Musonda, 20, returned to Stamford Bridge on 1 January after his half-season loan at Real Betis came to an end and could be available for a second spell away from his parent club for the second half of the campaign.

There is no mention specifically of any of the Tottenham players, either from the first team or on the fringes of the squad, who might be interesting Roma.

Roma are the best placed team to end Juventus’ stranglehold on the Serie A title this season.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are second in the league and four points behind leaders Juve, although the champions have a match in hand.

In other Tottenham transfer news, Spurs have agreed a striker transfer and the player has been hailed as “brilliant” by his manager.
