Liverpool star Joel Matip has been spotted training alone in a city park after the club's headquarters were shut down, Football Insider has learned.

The Merseysiders sent their players home to train away from the Melwood training ground in the immediate wake of the suspension of Premier League football a week ago.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Matip has been seen running laps in Sefton Park in the south part of the city as he looks to maintain his fitness.

The club's players not rehabilitating from injury have been told by Jurgen Klopp and his staff to stay away from Melwood.

They have instead been given individual training plans by the fitness and conditioning staff to keep fit over the coming weeks.

The suspension was extended yesterday by another four weeks.

The Premier League, FA and EFL issued a joint statement announcing that matches won't recommence until at least 30 April and that the season will be extended "indefinitely".

The ruling bodies have not committed to any option at this stage and will continue to remain flexible.

Officials are open to the prospect of staging matches behind closed doors in order to complete league programmes and finish this season.

That is a major boost to runaway leaders Liverpool's hopes of winning their first league title in 30 years.

Matip began the campaign as an integral member of Klopp's all-conquering side before losing his place to Joe Gomez after an extended spell out through injury.
