Tottenham are lining up a move for Swansea City attacker Daniel James as they set their sights on youthful homegrown talent this summer, Football Insider understands.

The north Londoners are set to make a major splash in the summer market and will concentrate on recruiting players like James with their best years ahead of them.

A club source has told Football Insider that the Yorkshire-born 21-year-old, who was on Hull City's books until joining Swansea aged 17, is on Spurs' radar following his eyecatching displays in recent months.

James came within a whisker of joining Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal in January for a total of £10million and underwent a medical before Swansea pulled the plug at the eleventh hour.

Leeds are still keen to sign the winger this summer but their hopes of doing so depend upon securing promotion to the Premier League.

The third-placed Championship club recognise they won't be able to afford or attract James if they are playing in the second tier again next season.

Tottenham have the resources to blow Leeds out of the water in the race for James, who is also attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

He scored his first international goal for Wales last weekend and has netted three times for Swansea this season as well as supplied six assists.
