Spurs Exclusive: Paul Robinson shares fears about Tanganga contract talks
Paul Robinson is growingly concerned with Japhet Tanganga’s contract situation at Tottenham and fears the player’s agent may be making unrealistic demands.
The former White Hart Lane shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, heaped praise on the 21-year-old for an impressive debut campaign in north London.
Football Insider revealed last month that Spurs were in advanced talks with the defender over a new deal after having their initial offer rejected.
However, since then no official announcement has been made although the Coronavirus pandemic will have likely complicated the process.
Tanganga, who celebrated his birthday last month, was originally out of contract this June but the Lilywhites triggered the one-year extension option.
When asked by Football Insider if the versatile centre-half’s meteoric rise may have complicated proceedings, Robinson said: “They have to tie him down to a new deal.

“Tanganga has done really well. He has had an impact since he has come in and he deserves a new contract.
“I suspect the old contract will be very different to his old one. You hope that the club reward him in line with where he has progressed to this year.
“The worry is that his agent has got to him, put a lot of astronomical figures in his head and told him he can get him this, that and the other at another club. You hope that the contract negotiations are going well with Spurs.
“It is a great club to develop at as a player. Jose is a great manager. If you are signing the likes of Umtiti and have Alderweireld alongside you it is a good place to learn and grow.”
Sky Sports claim Barcelona have offered Spurs Samuel Umtiti in exchange for Tanguy Ndombele this summer.
Tanganga made 11 first-team appearances prior to the suspension of the season.
