Sky Sports pundit pundit David Prutton has criticised Leeds striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash with Middlesbrough.
The 25-year-old centre-forward moved to Elland Road on a season-long loan from Hamburg on transfer deadline day back in August.
The German made quite an impact scoring twice on his debut in the 5-0 win over Burton Albion, but he has only managed three goals in his nine league appearances for the club since.
And Prutton suggests that it is not just his goalscoring that needs to improve.
The former Whites midfielder questioned the striker’s all-round game and his failure to bring his teammates into play.
“Pierre-Michel Lasogga needs to assert himself more. For all his physical size and stature, he doesn’t cause the opposition enough problems,” Prutton wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“From a shape point of view, the fact that you have got a centre-forward who touches the ball so very rarely is quite staggering.
“I don’t think Leeds have quite worked out how best to utilise him – even if that sounds crazy when he has scored five goals.”
After a fantastic start to the season under boss Thomas Christiansen, Leeds have fallen out of the Championship play-off places with seven defeats in their last nine league games.
Lasogga last scored in the 2-1 home defeat to Derby on October 31 and will be hoping to help his side return to winning ways at the weekend.
The Whites return to Championship action this weekend when they face high-flying Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Sunday.
Middlesbrough are currently fifth in the table and have won their last three matches.
In other Leeds United news, current Middlesbrough star Jonny Howson has revealed that he is still very much a supporter of the Whites but will be putting his allegiances aside when he faces his former club on Sunday.
