Stan Collymore believes that West Ham should make an approach to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings on a possible loan deal this summer.

However the former Aston Villa winger is adamant that Andre Ayew could still have a role to play in the Hammers attack next season after what was an underwhelming debut year at the London Stadium.

One-time England international Ings didn’t play a single first-team match for Liverpool in the league last season, and his only two appearances came in the EFL Cup, with the last being in October.

The former Burnley man has suffered terrible injuries ever since moving to Anfield, but ex-Red Collymore recommended him as the man to take Slaven Bilic’s side forward in the 2017/18 campaign when asked by a fan about the Hammers’ transfer dealings.

“I think the hope is that Ayew will be fit, ready and focused for a full season. If he does go, I’d go for an Ings on loan for a season,” said Collymore, on his personal Twitter account on Friday.

Ings signed for Liverpool in 2015 following the expiration of his contract with Burnley.

He was in hot form for the Clarets, scoring 11 league goals in 35 appearances ahead of his switch to Merseyside.

However Ings’ luck has been rotten since and despite earning his one and only international cap in October 2015, has only scored three goals in 11 matches in the last two years.

West Ham’s striking problem is no secret with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho’s ongoing struggles with injuries.

Traditional winger Michail Antonio was forced to play up front for spells last season before he suffered a setback of his own while Jonathan Calleri’s loan move to East London proved fruitless.
