'Standard Leeds day' - Fans react on Twitter to reported FIFA investigation

By Harvey Byrne

Leeds fans have aired their dismay at the club on Twitter after it was claimed that FIFA were investigating their deal for star centre-back Pontus Jansson due to delayed payments.

Jansson, 26, made a loan switch to the Yorkshire giants in the summer from Serie A side Torino and immediately became a fan favourite due to his physical playing style.

He also become a key part of Garry Monk’s team and after completing 22 matches for the club it was confirmed by the official website in February that they had agreed a permanent deal for the Sweden international, which is set to activate when his loan deal expires.

The transfer seemed to be a simple one for Leeds, but Ed Aarons, deputy news editor for the Guradian reported via his personal Twitter account on Friday that FIFA were now investigating the deal with Torino wanting the money now while Premier League side Southampton had also shown an interest.

Now, the Jansson story has came on the same day as another blow with Mike Thornton, who  is the company secretary of supporters group Leeds Fans Utd via a blog post on Thursday night that Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover is under major threat due to Bahraini investment bank Gulf Finance House (GFH).

It is of course not unusual for Leeds fans to read bad news about their club given the sides woes in recent years which has seen them drop down to League One, while also being led by Ken Bates and then Italian businessman Massimo Cellino.

This then resulted in Friday’s stories receiving an almost “expected it” reaction from fans on social media and while supporters were obviously upset once again, they also stated “here we go again” and “standard Leeds day” giving the famous club’s recent history.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

It is clear from the fans responses that they will now be hoping these reports are far from the truth and that the club can try and make some progress this summer after last season’s seventh placing.
