Star attacker ruled out in double injury blow for Tottenham clash v Real Madrid

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale will not be making a return to former club Tottenham on Wednesday after he was left out of the squad for their Champions League clash.
The Welsh attacker had returned to training for Los Blancos with hopes that he would be fit for their group stage match but manager Zinedine Zidane has chosen not to include him in the 19-man squad which will travel to London, as revealed on the club’s official website.
Also ruled out is defender Raphael Varane, who scored an own goal for Spurs in the 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture, having been substituted at half time in the Spanish giants’ shock 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Girona in their La Liga match on Sunday.
Tottenham and Real Madrid sit joint top of their Champions League group on seven points, having both picked up victories against Borussia Dortmund and Apoel Nicosia, and as a result they both know that victory at Wembley on Wednesday would give them a major boost in their hopes to qualify as group winners.
Both sides are coming into the match off the back of disappointing defeats, with Spurs having slipped to a 1-0 loss against fellow Premier League title hopefuls Manchester United on Saturday.
