Leicester City are still waiting to find out what punishment they will face following their profit and sustainability (PSR) breach.

Leicester were initially charged with a spending breach in March 2024 after reporting losses of £90million for 2022-23, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105m over a rolling three-year period.

It has since been confirmed the Foxes will not face any punishment for their 2022-23 breach after exploiting a loophole in the rules.

However, Leicester were charged last May with an alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules for 2023-24 – the year they secured promotion back to the Premier League

Meanwhile, Leicester’s PSR situation for last season remains unclear following their relegation back to the Championship, with clubs required to submit their accounts to the Premier League by 31 December for the 2024-25 campaign.

Could Leicester be facing another PSR charge?

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s unclear whether the Premier League or EFL has jurisdiction over Leicester for last season.

The i Paper reported on Tuesday (13 January) if a breach was committed by any of the teams in question, it would be announced on Wednesday (14 January).

The newspaper said the Premier League was expected to declare all 20 clubs compliant for the first time in three seasons, but a statement is yet to be made either way.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Leicester’s situation, Borson said: “First of all, we don't know whether anybody's breached. There was no announcement.

“Last year the league put out an announcement two weeks after the deadline that said everybody's passed basically this year. They haven't done that.

“Now, I don't know whether that means that somebody hasn't passed, and we just haven't heard that they've been charged. It's very hard to know.

“I think Leicester is a different situation entirely because, of course, they're a Championship team. I'm not sure who's got jurisdiction.

“It's all been so complicated over the years. It's very hard to know who's got jurisdiction for the season. It depends on whether it's passed over to the EFL on behalf of the Premier League, but we're going to find out pretty soon in relation to that.”

When will Leicester find out about their potential points deduction?

Borson revealed Leicester could find out the verdict of their alleged breach for 2023-24 next week after their case was heard in November.

“We're also going to find out pretty soon in relation to the charge that was handed out last season and any points deduction that's coming from that,” said Borson.

I would think that decision will come next week, maybe the week after. I would think it's got to be pretty soon.”

Borson previously told Football Insider Leicester are likely to receive a six-point deduction if the decision goes against them.
