Ruben Amorim is looking to turn Manchester United's fortunes around despite an unconvincing year at Old Trafford.

Amorim was drafted in to replace Erik ten Hag last November, but the results on the pitch haven't improved.

Man United would have to pay around £10million to sack Amorim, with questions being asked about the club’s financial situation in recent months.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to back Amorim, with the INEOS chief suggesting the Portuguese boss will be given three years to prove himself when speaking on The Business podcast last week.

Ruben Amorim got lucky escape in Sunderland clash

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s unlikely Amorim will last three years given Man United’s form since he joined the club.

Man United currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after picking up 10 points from their opening seven games of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Well, football is fickle, and one result can change people's perception of the situation, even if that one win is Sunderland at home.

“He may have been offside, but if Sunderland score their chance on three minutes and something goes wrong in that game, then the whole picture looks very different.

“I think it's pretty unlikely that Amorim sees out three years.”

Man United are not playing in Europe this season after finishing 15th in the Premier League table in 2024-25.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe backing Amorim to succeed

Ratcliffe remains determined to back Amorim despite the building pressure and is keen to give him time to prove himself.

“I think Ratcliffe is just trying to take some of the pressure and some of the heat out of the situation at this point, and that's not unreasonable,” said Borson.

“Clearly, all of the infrastructure around the new United, so Ratcliffe, Wilcox, Berrada, all of them obviously want Amorim to succeed. He's their pick. They backed him.

“But I think it looks to me to be hard to see how he would survive three years.”

Man United’s next fixture will see them take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday (19 October).
