Steve Bruce: This is the harsh reality of being Aston Villa manager
By Danny Wright
Steve Bruce wants Aston Villa to secure a strong finish to the season amid concerns that he could find his future in jeopardy with a run of negative results.
Burton Albion held Villa to a surprise draw on Saturday which halted their run of four consecutive wins and condemned them to finishing the season without having anything to realistically play for.
The Birmingham-based club endured a tough start to 2017 but Bruce has helped his side overcome their poor form and steer themselves well clear of the relegation zone into a mid-table position.
However Bruce isn’t ready to rest of his laurels just yet as he’s admitted that the harsh reality of being at a club like Villa is that you could instantly find yourself under pressure.
“We are Aston Villa and you are always playing for your future,” said Bruce, as quoted by the Express and Star. “You are only ever a week away from a crisis. That is what we have to do.

“We can’t be happy with 10th in the Championship. Our club does not demand that. At the moment that is where we are and we have to improve. My job is to keep improving us.”
Villa are 11th in the standings and didn’t drop lower over the weekend thanks to Brentford’s loss to Cardiff.
There are five games remaining of the season and, while they are 11 points adrift of the play-off places, all hopes of securing a return to the Premier League were dashed in the Staffordshire stalemate.
Aston Villa had won seven of their last eight matches prior to the draw with Burton and looked like they were ready to mount a late assault on the top six.
Bruce has now let the fans know that he still isn’t happy about the club’s plight and will want to make amends next season as they look to return to the top-flight.
