Steve Bull was left drooling over Ruben Neves after the midfielder scored one of the goals of the season in Wolves’ 2-0 win against Derby at Molineux on Wednesday night.

The West Midlands club moved within one win away from earning automatic promotion to the Premier League thanks to goals in each half by Diogo Jota and Neves, whose long-range volley sent fans into meltdown in the 52nd minute.

Molineux legend Bull raved about the Portuguese playmaker in Sky Sports Football’s post-match coverage on Wednesday night, but he did admit that he worries about Wolves being unable to hang on to the £15million midfielder.

“You can put two goalkeepers in goal, they would not save that goal,” said Bull on Sky Sports.

When asked whether he though Neves’ goal was goal of the season, the ex-England international said: “I think so. That is top drawer there. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

“He’s still got a lot to learn. Fingers crossed he will stay.”

Neves has made 38 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this season.

He has scored six goals for the Championship leaders, all of which have come from outside the box.

Football Insider verdict

There is every chance that Neves will leave Wolves this season. He is way too good for them and there are bound to be rich clubs queuing up to sign him in the summer transfer window, especially if he can score more goals like he did against the Rams. Jorge Mendes’ help in the transfers at Molineux must surely come with the fact that players are not going to stick around there together. Molineux is being used as a stepping stone for the likes of Neves, Diogo Jota and co to get them into English football before going off to someone like the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, or Chelsea.
