Steven Gerrard has had ‘four meetings’ with Burnley to discuss manager’s role
Steven Gerrard has had multiple talks with Burnley over their vacant managerial position and can take the job if he wants it.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, with Burnley looking to replace the recently departed Scott Parker.
The Clarets’ relegation back to the Championship has already been confirmed, and their next manager will be expected to challenge for instant promotion back to the Premier League.
Gerrard is one name that has been linked to the job, but the 45-year-old has been out of work since January 2025, when he left Saudi club Al-Ettifaq.
Wales boss Craig Bellamy could challenge Gerrard for the role, with Mike Jackson currently in charge of the team for the remainder of the season.
Steven Gerrard the ‘favourite’ to take Burnley job
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that discussions have already been happening between Gerrard and Burnley.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks that Bellamy, and former Clarets boss Sean Dyche, are currently outsiders to take the job.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: I’m hearing yes, Steven Gerrard has already had discussions and I think he’s got to be the favourite to come in.
“I’d be surprised if Sean Dyche wanted to go back. I don’t think that will quite work out so well, but Steven is the favourite, and he is hotly linked with it and I do understand there’s been three or four meetings that have taken place already.
“Craig Bellamy, with the home Euros coming up, he is quite happy at Wales and feels he’s got a job to do there, and he’d be happy to stay there. So I don’t see him being in the Burnley running. I think it’s pretty much Steven’s if he wants to take it or not.”
James Ward-Prowse tipped for Burnley transfer
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider, that Burnley could sign James Ward-Prowse on a permanent deal once his loan spell from West Ham expires at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old is not in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans at West Ham, whilst the London club will need to sell players this summer.
There are no immediate plans to complete a deal before Burnley appoint their next manager, who will have their say over whether Ward-Prowse remains at Turf Moor.
