Steven Gerrard is strong bookmakers favourite to be named manager of Premier League club
Steven Gerrard will hope to follow in the footsteps of Frank Lampard to revive his managerial career, with the Burnley job eyed.
The Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League is already confirmed, with Scott Parker’s job under serious scrutiny.
Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, with his time at Aston Villa serving as a stain on his pedigree.
But Lampard has shown that a managerial career can be rekindled, with the former Chelsea boss leading Coventry City to the Championship title last week.
The 47-year-old will lead the Sky Blues into the Premier League next season as he aims to prove his ability to manage in the top flight.
Steven Gerrard leads Burnley race
Football Insider exclusively revealed in December that Gerrard was very keen to return to Liverpool amid talk of Arne Slot being sacked and replaced by an interim manager.
The Dutchman remains under intense pressure at Anfield, but will be replaced by a permanent appointment in the summer if he is sacked.

Opportunities to return to management have been few and far between for Gerrard, although he did reject a return to Rangers in October.
The former England international was approached with a chance to replace Russell Martin and return to the scene of his greatest managerial achievement – an unbeaten league season in the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership – but he declined.
He was poached by Aston Villa in the summer following, but spent less than a year in charge after failing to lead the Premier League side forward.
Top-flight sides have been hesitant to appoint Gerrard since, but Lampard has proven that a reputation can be fixed in the Championship.
His former England midfield partner had overseen three fairly poor tenures in the Premier League and was without a job for well over a year before Coventry appointed him.

Gerrard will hope to walk a similar path, with one major bookmaker naming him as the 1/1 odds-on favourite to take the Burnley job ahead of next season.
Gerrard has already given his answer on Championship move
If Gerrard is to have a successful career in management, it feels as if his next role needs to go well.
The Championship is brutal, but it could be the perfect place to test his ability. “Yeah, listen, there’s no ego here,” he told the Overlap podcast earlier this month.
“There’s no like, ‘Oh, I think I’m above any levels’. It’s more the people that you speak to, you know. Like what is it that’s on the table? What are you trying to achieve? Is it realistic or?
“You know, what’s available to sort of support you in the role that you’re going to go into? But there’s no ego here. Yeah, of course.
“Most of the calls that I’ve had since I came out of my last job would be around Championship level. Yeah.”
