Steven Naismith will not be considered as a replacement for Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.

Rodgers finds himself under pressure at Parkhead after surrendering a seven-point lead to Rangers at the top of the table.

However, it is understood that the role is "out of the question" for Naismith because of his links to Rangers.

The 37-year-old made 132 appearances for Rangers during his playing career, scoring 33 goals and providing 30 assists.

He only faced two red cards as a player with one coming against Celtic in an Old Firm clash at Ibrox in 2011.

Naismith ended his playing career in 2021 at Hearts and was subsequently handed a backroom staff role at the club - he was promoted to manager in 2023.

His success in Edinburgh has caught the attention of several clubs with his reputation as a manager quickly growing.

In his first season in charge of the Scottish side, Naismith has Hearts sitting comfortably in third in the Scottish Premiership and has achieved a double over Celtic for the first time in 17 years.
