Kevin Campbell has tipped Pascal Struijk to be a genuine Premier League star at Leeds United next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker heaped praise on the 21-year-old who is “made of the right stuff” to continue his impressive development at Elland Road.

Struijk produced an eye-catching display on Sunday, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side shared a goalless draw with Manchester United at Elland Road.

The centre-half boasted 14 ball recoveries and 76 per cent duel success rate in what was his 20th Premier League start of the 2020-21 campaign. (Wyscout)

However, speaking to LUFC TV after the match, Struijk picked apart his own performance and said there were aspects of his game he could have done better in both halfs.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Struijk’s comments, Campbell said: “That shows that he is made of the right stuff.

“You have got to be your own biggest critic.

“He has had a great game against Manchester United but it is all about improving and developing your game.

“Let everybody else tell you how wonderful you are. Your focus should always be to look at yourself and pick faults. That is the only way you will improve.

“If he keeps doing that he will get better and better.”

Speaking after the draw, Struijk said: “I’m always very critical towards myself so I didn’t think my first-half was too good.

“But second-half, I think I did well, defensively especially. But still, I wanted to do better on the ball.”
