Darren Bent has been left raving over the performance of Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos after the Spaniard’s first start for the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England striker, who actually supports Spurs’ north London rivals, was left bowled over by what he saw from the midfielder against Burnley on Saturday on the way to a 2-1 victory.
The 23-year-old set up both goals for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, playing 82 minutes in front of the Emirates Stadium faithful.
With Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season, Bent insists the Gunners will have competition for his signing if he continues to perform as he did against the Clarets, the former striker raving over all elements of his game.
Asked what he thought of the 23-year-old’s first start, Bent told Football Insider: “Very, very, very good. He completely ran the game, he played well – not only did he look like he can put a tackle in but he’s got great distribution on the ball.
“He has high energy, creative, good range of passing. Listen, Arsenal might have just stumbled upon a gem there. The only disappointing thing is Arsenal don’t have him permanently.
“If he keeps performing like that, it will not just be Arsenal in for him.”
Ceballos arrived at Arsenal having played 56 times for Real Madrid in the last two years, exactly half of those coming in the starting XI, while he also has six caps under his belt for Spain.
He was one of six new signings this summer as Unai Emery looks to improve on last season’s fifth-placed finish.
